Darts is a variety of related games, in which darts are thrown at a circular target (dart board) hung on a wall. Though various different boards and games have been used in the past, the term 'darts' usually now refers to a standardised game involving a specific board design and set of rules. As well as being a professional competitive activity, darts is a traditional pub game, commonly played in the United Kingdom (the first country to officially recognize darts as a sport), across the Commonwealth, the Netherlands, Ireland, the Scandinavian countries, the United States, and elsewhere. Dart boards are usually made of sisal fibers or boar bristles, low quality boards are sometimes made of coiled paper. A regulation board is 18 inches (45.72 cm) in diameter, and is divided into 20 sections. Each section is lined with thin metal wire. The numbers indicating the various scoring sections of the board are normally made of wire, especially on tournament-quality boards, but may be printed directly on the board instead. (Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darts ) Bloody hell, had a dartboard meself, but me flippin' ex stole the bleeding thing.

Darts, otherwise known as the game we play where we more or less randomly throw dangerously sharp objects at the wall hoping they hit the correct section of the 'target' Occationaly someone spoils the fun by actualy 'winning' Also known as the game we play when too drunk/poor to play pool Any tips on how to actualy hit what we're aiming at would be appreciated. Why are posting about darts, and wishing you had a dart board. do you have a picture of me ready to put full of dart holes? Just making conversaton darlin'; and I actually found playing darts relaxing; took my mind off things, since I had to concentrate on throwing the darts right. Now why would I throw darts at a picture, when I can throw them at the real thing.

I'd invite tips. I've had tons of drunk people offer "not so useful" tips during play. I find that the most repedative results I get are when my movement is only with the part of the arm from the elbow to the hand. The upper part of my arm makes the dart unpredictable. I control discharge trajectory with my pointer finger pushing down as I release the dart. Not great at it, but it at least hits the board almost every time. Almost happens more readily on beers 3-6.

I'm fairly certain that for a comfortable, but powerful throw a certain amount of shoulder motion is necessary, but I suck at darts, so I'm not the one to listen to. I agree, finger control for aiming seems to work better. My brother had a dart board once, but now my parents just have a lot of plaster patching to do.

On a professional board, you don't need alot of power to stick your dart. Cheap pub boards do, but the good ones don't. You can stick them with minimal force, so you'd don't have to wail it. Introduction of the shoulder adds another plane into your arm to worry about controlling. Like pool. You really only want your pool shot to be from the elbow down. Your shoulder entering into the equation will actually kick you off plane and you'll swing your shot and not hit true.
Is that making sense? It took the erradicness out of my shots. Now I know that I'll hit within one plane on the board, based on where I face the board. My finger then controls trajectory to determine the elevation in that plane of impact.

I have a professional practice board with self sealing sisal fibers and no staples. The practice board is great because the double and triple rings are half the size of a regular board. Here is a site that I used to get started at throwing darts: www.dartbase.com/frames.php3?x=technics.htm

I'm not that good at the actual game, just hitting the board. I'd love to play you some time. There are some obstacles to my board. You can't get a good parabolic arc if you're tall like me because of the steam pipes in my basement.
Thanks for changing your avatar there. He-man's He-gasm was funny, but hard to type on my lunch break with that on the screen. LOL

Yes, off of your "no bounce off" board. One of my finer accomplishments. I guess that would be right up there with convincing a cat I had taken its nose away with the ol' "got your nose" trick that infants love, or hate, not quite sure.
