Are we going to go for the earlier starting time of 11 AM for December and subsequent games? I don't think that we really discussed it today. On the plus side, with the time change and winter hours, it gives us a bit more daylight time to play.

Actually, Rincewind and I were just discussing this... Having the game at the house and starting at 11 works for December and it should work for January, but I don't know after that. At some point along the line if we're going to sell the house, I need to rearrange the sunroom and there isn't any other large cat-free playing space in the house. (There is a chance that we won't be selling, but it is the most likely course of events.) We're also supposed to be getting a different kind of munchkin in mid-February, so I won't know what's happening with us in February until it actually happens. At that point, I may have to start thinking about sending Beruthiel off somewhere to start her own city (of plants).

well so much for needing a party,
i think when we come acoss a problem we'll let flying metalic bird that noone knows about ( dc 24 planes to even have heard about it, let alone familairze with it)and the rest of us can do normal human mission, you know what le just drop him on the queen he'll get rid of it in just one round. then the whole game can end.
soo how did thing end up last night, are me ryle and shiv indoors now? and how are we going to handle that. oh yeah kaber the Exp for all of us, and do we even get exp for the ruin monster, most of us didn't get a turn in that.

We just did a trial on if we could even take the Legendary version. So that is where we will start with. All of us are outside.

Great news and many happy congratulations to you both and the soon to be older brother.
As for the game I'm still kind of stunned at the turn of events (with the whole adamantine flavoured bird thingy and his equally devastating Hydra with it's 12 attacks). lol
One thing to come out of the last gaming session is knowing that my character is nowhere near the realm of being overpowered or unbalanced. I would even say that he is one of the "normal" or underpowered characters in the group.
Anyway it was an interesting session to say the least and we have come away with great news about Rincewind/Morgause's family addition. If you sell the house are you guys planning on staying in the area?

Congrats to Tyler and Julie...I mean Rincewind and Morgause! As for the game....The flying metallic bird has suffered a rare case of Delayed Post Remittent Malignant Infant Death Syndrom and has died suddenly. On the upside, the now Ledgendary Ruin Elemental can be defeated with some difficulty and should prove adequate for the partys numbers and levels. =D

We're hoping to find a house somewhere in the Lancaster vicinity. Maybe closer to York where Tyler mostly works, but the houses that keep interesting me online tend to be a bit north of Lancaster. Don't know if we'll have a room to play D&D in or not, but we are looking for a larger house. I really don't know when it will happen other than having the idea that "spring is a good time to sell your house."

You will all be happy to know that master of many forms will not be making a reappearance at least not without some major reworking and without his magical beast forms.
I'm not really sure what to play, for my new PC, apparently I can't build one with out optimizing it after so long on the ChaOP boards so I’ll have to give it some thought.

There isn't anything wrong with having a well made, optimized, or whatever you want to call it, character but you need to make sure you have some boundaries. I'm sure Kaber would be okay with the Master of Many Forms if you had gone with "normal" type creatures and by 'normal' I mean stuff that isn't so over-the-top that the game stalls out from a mechanics perspective. I think we wasted like three hours of play time yesterday because the DM had to figure out how to deal with the creatures you were turning into.
The way I figure out what I want to play is to start with an core class then develop a concept of what you want that character to be like then think about how to tweak him so he is good at what he does. Avoid going down the path of "how can I have the most powerful character" thinking.
Good luck with discovering your new character and be prepared for him to die or something bad happening to him when it comes time to draw from the deck of cards. LOL

Tal,
I find a good way to make a "realistic" character is to write a fairly detailed history first and then take feats and skills that fit into that history.

The sad thing is that the only strange form i had was the steel wing the rest are very common monsters from D&D and mithology.

It isn't so much the class, it is the Forms you take. Not just the bird, a 6 headed Hydra instead of a 12 headed, is more realistic. A normal Troll as opposed to a War Troll. It's not going and finding the most powerful form of a creature, that makes a good character. I know, I take 2 things from a core book and combine them, but hey, I pay a price for it. But I also try and balance it out. Like Ranger vs Fighter. So Light armor vs Plate. I may do Damage but I can be hit and lower than most on HP.

Well the hydra's number of heads is baised on hit dice, i have 12 so the hydra form i shift into has 12 heads, the form is the hydra the rest is just mechanics. And the war troll gives up the rend ability for dropping the vulnerability to fire not really a big deal, the troll would do more damage over all.

Personally, I know it takes a much lower understanding of the rules, but I always found it took more Role Playing skill to play the mundane and every day characters. I don't mean a fighter with a 6 strength, but avoid pushing the envelope towards "God-like" for your character.
What is the point of role playing and gaming if you can defeat everything in 1-3 hits. How boring is that? It would be a total waste of my time if I never had the chance of not defeating the opponent. I don't play to fire patriot missles at the target from miles away and watch the big boom.
Play something where you can get your hands dirty and it's not tweaked to the max. I agree with the suggestion of creating a history first and chosing skills and abilities to fit that history. Not "I need this for maximum damage and the rest doesnt' matter". "The Rest" is what makes the game worthwhile.
Just a thought.
