What's weird is that all of a sudden we have like five movies on the same topic released so closely. Talk about super saturating a market.

I think the new Beowulf is kinda like "A Scanner Darkly" - real actors, animation/CG overlayed.
And ya, if Neil Gaiman wasn't doing the script, I wouldn't even bother - but after Stephen Lawhead, Gaiman is probably my favorite contemporary author.

No question about it the entire movie is CG, it looks like Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Kind of lame I didn’t really like scanner darkly because of the animated people. And this is the same thing with better graphics.

Ok, for my two coppers... Going to see Beowulf tomorrow, 300 rocked... Pathfinder (in my not so humble openion) Sucked. I asked for my money back.
I expected more from both Clancy Brown (Highlander's Kurgan) and Karl Urban (Lord of the Ring's Eomer) but sadly this just fell short of even the simplest expectations. It was heavily telegraphed and just all around wasn't a satisfying movie experience... even my popcorn was too salty...
for my part... looking for a good movie, steer well clear of this turkey...
Yes, Beowulf is played by a real actor, Ray Winstone... whom if you remember the series "Robin of Sharewood" he played Will Scarlet

I didn't know it was hitting DVD already. I don't know if I'll even bother. Just doesn't look appealing at all to me. Like a lame rip off of somebody else's ideas. Besides, I'm about sick of Beowulf movies. Been way too many over the years.

Kaber and I watched it last night, and it was....ok.
I didn't see the point of having real life actors portrayed via CG, and then having their voices dubbed in....waste of time and energy if you ask me.
The dragon, and the battle with it, was awesome though.

So... saw this the other night.
Here is my simple run-down:
Pros
Nicely constructed script Nifty action sequences and choreography Very good voice acting (especially Beowulf and Hrothgar) Ambigious ending
Cons
CGI crap Telegraphed twist in plot due to commercials Ambigious ending
It sucked that you new about Grendel's mom because of the trailers with Angelina Jolie in them. And the CGI added nothing, and detracted a lot at times, as the depth of the characters emotions got lost in the bad lighting. Some people love endings like this one has, some don't - I do, so I put it on both lists.
Overall: 3.5-4 stars out of 5 possible
