Trip/Improved Trip
Does making an unarmed trip attempt require two hands?
Shield Bash
Shield Bash only discusses shield bashing as part of a 'two-weapon' attack. What if the shield bash were the only attack for the round?
Idea: Fighter has Improved Trip, but no tripping weapon. Makes an unarmed trip attack. If successful takes a shield bash as his 'free' attack.
This is mostly pointed at Nick, since it is in his game, but all thoughts welcome.

Trip issue:
No, since unarmed attacks can be done with any part of the body - leg, knee, elbow, whatever - though this confers no mechanical benefit. I might rule that it is a light weapon (don't recall for tripping if that makes a difference) since unarmed strikes are finessable, though I don't know for sure how to call that, since you can Power Attack unarmed. Also if you fail they would get a free trip attempt, since you can't drop the weapon in any way.
Shield Bash
Based on my reading of this (I have given this one some serious thought, actually, in the past) you can wield two weapons without penalty if you only use one at a time. For example, you are a fighter and you wield a hammer in one hand and a heavy pick in the other. Assuming you are level one, you attack once per round without penalty, choosing which weapon to use. If you are level 6, you can choose which weapon to use for each attack. The benefit of TWFing is that you get the extra attack at each break point for new attacks with the off-hand weapon, thus raising, hopefully, your DPS rate. Using this idea, though, the "offhand" weapon might still take the half STR bonus penalty.
Idea
I think this works fine, though it will be extremely low damage output, unless I am missing something in the build. Barring magic, I think that a heavy shield does 1d4 and a spiked heavy shield does 1d6.
Granted, I am not the DM for this, but it seems reasonable.

I agree essentially with all above described and proposed ideas.
