OK, I guess that DDO Unlimited, was such a success, that LORTO will be going F2P, in the fall. I guess it will be set up very similar.
You can apply for the Beta now. I could do the beta, but as a lifetime member, doesn't make sense. Come on out when it starts. All my high levels are on Nimrodel.
If you are going to play, let me know, I will supply you with all the top of the line equipment. LOL. It will make you almost indestructable.

I made something like a level 20 hobbit bard during my month of trial play. I'll probably get back into it when the free play starts. I need something to do this summer. oh it starts in the fall nevermind
I'll be glad to tell you the name of my character once I'm able to log back in and find out what it is.

Morgause and I might take you up on that, she's intrigued to try it at any rate.

Cool, as it gets closer to going live, I will either start Farming supplies. Heck I may even cheat and just buy them, as long as the price is right. Don't want to take your supplies so you can't level up your crafting skills.
I will even offer advice on classes if you ask. Played most of them, Lore-Master not that familiar with. But the others, very familiar with.

OK. LOTRO goes live on Sept. 10. I play on Nimrodel, and have the all my character spots full. LOL. I will be deleting one just so I can play at same level as anyone who wants to join.
Tyler will be somewhat familiar with how its sort of going to run. You will do quests to earn Points, complete deeds to get points, and improve Rep with the races to get points. Points will get you additional character slots, inventory bags etc..., but more importantly they open up the other zones, to continue the story. I don't know if they still have the 10day free trial up, but that would be a good thing to try. You won't earn points yet, but would give a chance to get feel of characters and classes.

A note for people who are interested: It appears that you can download the client software now. Since this is about 6-7 gig, I recommend you get that head start. Ideally get it set up to do it overnight. You don't want to be bothering with this on the 10th.
So, what classes are there and how do they work? Can you give us a run-down? And what two would work best together for a husband and wife team who can't count on having a group?

OK, the classes you can have to start with F2P will be, Guardian, Champion, Burglar, Hunter, Lore Master, Minstrel, and Captain.
Guardian is the pure Meat Shield/Defender. Will have the most HP and best armor early, being Heavy at level 15 instead of 20. Will also draw the most Aggro in fights with taunts. 1 Handed weapons and Heavy shields are best, but 2handers will work well also, if traited right.
Champions are the DPS, heavy class fighter. Will be 2 Weapon fighting or can use a 2hander very well. Can get aggro from healers 2nd best.
Captains are the Heavy armor buffers/minor heals. This class also get a Herald/Banner to use in fights also. Can summon party members to locations, have really nice buffs, and very small healing ability, that compliments the healers nicely. At higher levels can also revive fallen allies right away, but a long cooldown after use, but when the Minstrel goes down, nice to have to revive them quickly.
Burglar, well no explanation probably needed. Does more damage from back, and from hiding. They also are the ones to use for starting Fellowship moves best. Also have Mezzes for different Humanoid Mobs. Medium armor class.
Hunters = PURE DPS. They also have traps and roots to slow down mobs. Can transport all members of party, to port locations that they get at increment levels. Kill the mob before the mob gets to you, is their motto. Medium Armor class.
Lore Master is Gandalf. Roots, animal pets, DOTs and elemental spells in the arsenal. They are also secondary healers, and get a Resurrection also. Also get some debuffs for mobs, and mezzes also. I never got into the LM so not much help there. Light armor only.
Minstrels are the Healers. Think Bard/Cleric. They use songs to Buff/Heal/Damage. The pure healer almost necessary for any party or high level group instances. They do have some really good damage spells and very good solo characters, with practice. Light armor at lower levels, for the stats on armor for power pool. At higher levels when you have more Trait slots, you can get Medium armor, but will lose some power.
If you want you can try different things, but I would go with at least one of Guard/Champ/Capt. and Minstrel. For the added challenge drop the Minstrel and take the Hunter, but at least one of the heavy classes. Shoot if really want to have fun, go with 2 hunters and no mob should get near you, LOL
Now I did open up a spot and will have a RK made. That itself would give you a Healer/DPS class. RK takes a lot of practice, since most heals are HoTs. Rune Keepers are fun, but you have to be set up for Heals or DPS for best usage. can replace a Minstrel if done right, but doesn't heal the whole party at one time, like some of the minstrel songs. Good to kill mobs fast, then heal after fight, in small groups.
Now if you are interested, I'm sure my Kin will recruit members who are F2P, so there should be lots of new players for you to group with.
Will have all races available. Dwarf/Elf/Hobbit and Human. Not all races have access to all classes. Only Humans can be Captains, no Dwarf LMs. Rune Keepers and Wardens will probably only be able to be purchase, after you purchase Mines of Moria, since that was the expansion they become available.
Elves and Hobbits, good Hunters and Burgs.
Humans make good Heavy Armor classes. Get a 3000pt quick heal, has a 1hr cooldown, but saves my but when I remember I have it. LOL
Dwarves also make good Tanks. Although I vowed never to play a Dorf.
All races OK for Minstrels, not really sure if one makes a better one than any other race.
Each race has a different racial trait, so good to read lore on them.

Will my old minstrel still be accessible when I sign on after going F2P?

Yes, if you had a previous account, all your characters will still be there. However if you had more, than what the F2P have access to at first, then you will have to choose which to play. Plus I am on Nimrodel, if you didn't have any there, then you start fresh.
If it was on Nimrodel, and of a higher level, you may not have access to the zones you were in. You will have access to all the starter zones, Shire/Bree and I can never remember the name of the zone, Dorfs and Elves start in.

All my mains, again will be on Nimrodel. If you want to start fresh, I have made a character on Crickhollow, it is a new server, so you should not see any 65s, unless there were some transfers.

Made my character on Nimrodel, he's a Human (Rohirrim) Guardian, name's Hrodgild. Roughly level six right now.
