Well, this wasn't originally constructed as humor, and it's both witchcraft and D&D-related, so it falls under a number of categories. However, there's no denying that Jack Chick's Dark Dungeons tract is (unintentionally) hilarious by its sheer ignorance. So I'm posting two links: The first is the tract itself, for those who want to make up their own minds about it, and the second is after it's been given a MST3K makeover, by getting commentary from the Mystery Science Theater 3000 crew (disclaimer- not actually made by MST3K). I'm particularly curious to hear what LWW thinks of this fine piece of literature I believe it sells quite well to people who merely want to laugh at it, although that was definitely not the target audience. Dark Dungeons tract alone: www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0046/0046_01.aspTract with MST3K commentary (hilarious): www.fecundity.com/darkdung/index.html(Note that you'll have to advance each page by clicking on the arrow at the bottom.)

We'll have to all get together and rent that 1982 made-for-TV-movie with Tom Hanks (edit: Mazes and Monsters) sometime, it'd be hilarious Not as funny, but equally ludicrous, is this chapter of a book on chick's website. Question: Exactly how do THEY know "the Devil's Top Secret plan"? I mean, did he leave an envelope lying around in a church somewhere? Does he go blabbing it to everyone? Doesn't sound too secret to me. www.chick.com/reading/books/204/0204_10.aspBTW, for those of you who are concerned about these things happening at the link above, independant investigators have had extremely poor luck substantiating that any of those have actually happened, and when they did some people might think that there were other explanations, like "quarrel with secret gay lover", etc. Anyway, this is my favorite quote from the above link: "...supposed to be a board game, but kids play it for life and death on the street." Man, I'm having trouble counting the ways that's wrong. But imagining the Bloods and the Crips getting together to settle things with D&D is just too funny!

Just as an FYI, perhaps belatedly based on the date of the last posting of this thread, not all Christians, even of the fundamentalist or "religious right" or whatever other label they are called, think like this. Many of the people in my church play DnD, or games like it, or have in the past and all of us say the same thing - as long as it does not cause you to love God less, or interfere in your relationship with Him, it's fine. It's not like the 11th commandment is "Thou shalt not role-play"...

It is intersting to note that about 5 years ago, I was visiting my step mom in New Mexico. The area was having a religeous revival of sorts. While perusing the local flea market one day, I happened upon a stand selling Pokemon cards as well as baseball cards and the like. I asked the boy there if he sold any Magic the Gathering cards. His response: Uhh...Magic the Gathering......isn't that like, satanic or something?

MH, I just find it funny that some people use a tract from 1984 written by a guy like Jack Chick to stereotype Christians of all stripes in 2007 (or 2006 when this was started), and gets upset if others stereotype them by their extremists. I mean, come one - even the church makes fun of Chick - it isn't hard...

I think it's important to note that, despite being old and full of more holes than a screen door, it's still available through his website, the same as the many other pieces of filth he's produced. So it's not just railing at some old thing someone did a long time ago, it's something still being sold.

and distributed. I've gotten chick's pamphlets before from people that truely believe it. I have a masonic symbol on the back of my car so I get his masonic strip from time to time. Totally off base, just like the DnD one.

Yea, Chick is still available. I even know of a church that uses his tracts on occassion (not a big fan myself). But don't forget that I can still get a copy of Mein Kampf, Das Kapital, Turner Diaries, or the Anarchist's Cookbook off of Amazon. Can't imagine that they are big sellers, with the exception of college students taking courses on racism and communist economic and political theory, but they are still available if one desires them.

Well, yes, but the difference is, they aren't usually thrown at people as evidence of why you're a sinner. Rather the reverse, in some cases. So basically, yes, these are still posted as an example of modern-day religious intolerance, because they're still being used and believed by some rather credulous people.

I'd like to point out the other under emphasized fact here. No body is really condemning any large group other than the large group of ignorant/intolerant people who feel it is their duty to petition, in a manner of speaking, against activities such as magic the gathering and D&D. Really, Pokemon and Yugi Oh should be the target of crusades of this sort as they truly are the play grounds of the devil. Oh yeah, that bit about demons and the devil's secret plan is comic genius achieved by accident.
