Make an Adventure - DMs join the fun!!!

I know this is a rather long-winded post but bear with me and read the whole thing.

I thought that it might be fun to get together and make an adventure. But I have a couple of curve balls to throw at ya to make it more interesting ok here we go

The world of Uros was a vast prospering world of glorious civilizations, magic, & powerful gods. But then came a time when all warred as one (no its not Ragnorok, but similar ) The gods themselves descended from the heavens to battle upon the world of men. The gods wrought such destruction that the world itself became a dark and poisonous waste (something akin to a nuclear winter.) The remainder of mankind fled deep under the earth to survive. Of the gods, only four survived, but they left sorely wounded and abandoned what was now a barren rock. Man was left to fend for himself and in the underground tunnels they became like primates. (They kind of regress-evolved into the Grimlock race.) At the death of their oldest member all knowledge of both gods and magic passed from memory. They even forgot that there was even a surface to their world.

Humans – Grimlocks
Dwarves – a few small clans of mountain may still exist
Elves – all have died out (there were no drow)
Gnomes – even fewer than the dwarves
Halflings – leave em for now we’ll get to them, hehe

Primarily, until our world evolves a little, as we make the adventure, I want to keep it mainly Grimlock (human)

Now our adventure begins when some adventurous young Grimlocks cause a small cave in that opens a cave entrance to the surface which none of them have even heard of.

In the thousands of years that all of the races have lived underground their world has regrown, there are dark steamy jungles, fetid festering swamps, ruins of their ancestral civilizations, even perhaps great strange cities of alien races that had lived on the planet for a while and then left or died out. All is fresh new strange and weird.

The only classes thus far are fighter & thief and their weaponry is crude (they haven’t advanced at all in their time under the earth. Upon exploring this strange new surface, they will rediscover; magic, metallurgy, and most of what was forgotten. Even the four remaining gods will be rediscovered.)

So here is the first encounter description.

After the cave in, a strange purplish light shines in through a large hole, curious, the party peers out the hole and sees wondrous new things, the very air itself moves of its own volition. The cave emerges in a wooded hillside; a strange red moss carpets the ground beneath gently swaying trees with red bark and blue-green leaves. The purplish light filters down through the leaves. They hear a strange shrieking cry as a small fur winged animal glides through the trees. It is about the size of a fist with four scrawny legs, short gray fur, a long naked tail, black beady eyes, whiskers and a tiny snout.

The purple light is a new effect due to the planet’s blue sun and harmless gasses in the atmosphere. It makes the sunlight less harsh and does not impede the under dwellers in any way. The moss is just moss, it is red because of an evolved version of photosynthesis using the purple light for energy. The animal is a bat that has actually evolved more like its land dwelling rodent cousin. AKA, its more rat than bat.

OK go to it guys, get creative and have some fun. No need to post stats for anything, as I’d like this to be usable by all editions.

which include creature descriptions, what traps if any and any other pertinant info a dm running this adventure should know

we'll work out the maps and such later but for now the next encounter could be down the hillside or up, a wandering moster table etc...

this is an opportunity for us to all contribute in the making of an adventure in a brand new world that no one has seen bofore, the world will unfold so to speak as we create encounters.

maybe later they "party" will encounter a new race (hint I have an idea for a savage race of headhunter pygmys (halflings) )

As the party descends the hillside breathing in the new fresh blowing air, the freshness of the air and the abundance of oxygen out here on the surface makes the party feel as if they have consumed a couple of Mernick’s Mushroom ales, it is a pleasant feeling and not very debilitating. Strange creatures with feathered wings twitter and squawk as they flit about the trees. The trees thin a little as you descend and then clear all together giving you an unbelievable view:

Down at the bottom of this large hill you see a huge lake with crystal clear emerald green waters. Beside the lake is a vast city with tall gleaming spires, and great alabaster buildings all standing ominously grim and quiet.

The feathered creatures are harmless avian creatures that evolved from the birds of this planet’s yesteryears. The green lake is clear clean water, green from the unusual color of the light in the atmosphere. Although the water is safe to drink, some of the things that lurk within the lake could be potentially harmful to the party

The city is completely abandoned, albeit a few nasties, or an ancient sage or two, who still creep around the ruins. Although there are great libraries within the city they would be completely useless without someone or something to teach one or two of the party members to read. This city was one of the last great cites of the PC’s ancestors who chronicled the downfall of the surface. It has stood these many thousands of years because it was once inhabited by an alien race who added some of their own architectural talents to the buildings themselves, and maybe a few little toys, some surprises, and even some library additions.

Lets give this a shot, I know it's been almost 4 years.

As the explorers approach the strange alabaster city, the sky darkens and an a rumbling sound akin to great stones crashing against one another is heard. Water falls from the sky quickly drenching the land and off in the distance a blueish yellow line streaks from the sky to the land, followed by an deafeningly loud crash. The party is gripped by a need to hide themselves from this incredible event.

Hours later, the sky clears and the purpleish light once again illuminates the hillsides around them. The adventurers see off in the distance, near where the blue line had struck the ground, a faint dull gleam.

The effects of the weather are a normal storm of breaf duration, including thunderstorm level winds and rainfall, with excedingly low, but still possible, chance to be struck by lightning. Because of the unfamiliar nature of this event, it has an added fear effect that could drive the characters to grovel or flee for shelter (IE to the aformentioned city). The gleam in the distance is copper driven out of the ground by the intense heat of the lightning strike, providing the opportunity for the characters to take the first step toward rediscovering metelurgical technologies.
For this and future thunderstorms: The save against the storm's fear effect is a will save DC 15, characters will recieve a +1 bonus for each previous storm encountered, this bonus is instead a +2 for any storm successfully saved against. Failing this type of save causes a character to become panicked, fleeing toward the nearest shelter. Characters with 5 or more hit dice are instead shaken, and characters with 10 or more are immune.

Well, that's my contribution, let me conclude by saying; Rise from deep forgotten one and come to the bidding of Grond, resurrector of the threads! Although surely you shall be forgotten again soon.

Now, two years later, Grond dredges this lost thought out of the abyss, shining the light of scrutiny upon it.

Abruptly, the lush dense jungle gives way to a bleak landscape sparsely dotted with tortured and twisted skeletal trees. A rocky plateau, thrusting out of the blighted plain, stands in stark relief against the sickly yellow murky clouds ruling the sky over this region. High atop the plateau sits a squat stone and mud hut surrounded by crudely formed posts and stakes. From a distance a few of the posts appear to have something tied on them, but it is difficult to determine what that might be. As the party watches, an upright walking creature emerges from hovel carrying several small objects. It shuffles around in a peculiar manner, tossing the objects in seeming random directions before limping its way back into the hovel. A horrid snarling sound erupts from the hilltop for several minutes before a disturbing quiet settles over the area.

This region is the wasteland, or a wasteland, so saturated with destructive magics that even now it has not fully recovered life. Crossing this region has several "natural" hazards. Poisonous mind numbing vapors ( 1d4 con 1d4 wis, fortitude DC 13 negates, area 30 ft radius) have a 30% chance each minute of erupting (this can be reduced to a 5% chance, giving a 1 round warning with a successful avoid natural hazards survival check). Patches of ground are potential sink holes ( falling damage for 2d6 x 5 feet, reflex DC12 near edge of sinkhole, 16 away from edge) that may give way when walked on by enough weight (2d6X50 lbs). Finally, there is a small chance during the stormy weather typical of this place that one could be struck by lightning, a chance increased some by carrying metal weapons, and more so by wearing metal armor.
The region is populated by destrachan (not sure on spelling), otyuhgs, an occasional, though rare roper and a similarly rare Yrthak (or however it is spelled). The plateau and hovel are the home of an aging and sickly mind flayer 6th level sorcerer (blind, aged to venerable) and the snarling comes from a small group of trained displacer beasts the mystic (mind flayer) keeps tied up to protect himself. Many of the posts and stakes are adorned with smallish humanoid looking remains, dried out, incomplete and mostly stripped to the bone. The mystic is very wise and knowledgeable and willing to help as long as he doesn't think he has the upper hand, Any time he perceives an advantage, he will attempt to use magic and force to subdue visitors and eat their brains.
