I have revamped the calendar!! It took a bit of work but I have succeeded, I really think that it is much better this way and makes a whole lot more sense. I tried to explain my new calendar to Fritz but as usual he was rather skeptical saying that I was off my duff and that I was to push off – note to self, must reprimand my familiar for his continuous pessimism, end note -. I plan on presenting the new calendar as outlined below to the high council at the wizards carnival this year, I’m quite sure that despite Fritz’s rather insistent protests that I not even consider such a thing it will be well received.
The first thing that I did was to change the number of days in the year to an even 300 this made creating the rest of the calendar much easier. I also added three new months making a total of 15, I did this so that each month would have the same number of days and also to shorten each month because that I felt they were just too bloody long, now instead of waiting 30 days until the next month gets here I only have to wait 20!! This will also cut down on the amount of time it takes for potions to brew, if a potion took three months to brew before where that was 90 days now a three month potion is done in 60.
Each month still has four weeks however they are now shorter with five days each, there is still a weekend but the work week is now only three days instead of five, the peasants will thank me for this. The five-day week is as follows:
Firstday – is of course the first day of the week and also the first workday of the week.
Humpday – named so for being the middle of the week and a rather ingenious allusion on my part involving a “hurdle” or hump as it were to get past to the last day of the week. Fritz of course made some rather rude remarks about this day of the week that I cannot in good conscience record in this journal as that a small child may find and read this someday.
Friday – I left this name of the week as it was because I mean well really where would we be without TGIF, although I have absolutely no idea what those letters even stand for I do know that fate has mysteriously linked them with this day of the week and I always see a smile on everyone’s face when it is mentioned so I left it alone.
Ladysday – I named this day thusly after the lady of the winter wood who has captured my heart, also we always met for a picnic in the wood on the first day of the weekend and this will help me to remember to meet her, wait…what’s today…
Lemurday – cause I promised them I would name a day after them.
Well that wraps up the days of the week now let’s start on the months, but before I begin let me make something clear my year will begin on the first day of spring which only makes sense to me since spring is a metaphorical reoccurring rebirth of nature.
1.Creep – named so for it seems as if warmth creeps back into the world with the recession of winter. There are two festival holidays in creep the first is Sog, celebrated on the 4th of Creep. Sog is the celebration of that soggy state that the ground gets in when it thaws from the winter months. And the second is titter, this may seem a little strange but a grig once told me that the Fae celebrate the miracle of laughter from which they were all born, and so I thought it appropriate to place it in my first month. Titter is celebrated in the 13th of Creep
2.Wash – this is the month of spring storms that washes away the remnants of winter and brings about the rebirth of the flowers and trees. The winter wood is quite a lovely place in Wash. There is really only one holiday in wash and that is bathday, this is the one day of the year that I must remember to take a bath.
3.Washmore – this month is still raining from the last one.
4.Release – this month the rains finally stop and the sun comes out, but so too do the flowers, and the green of the trees, and you can finally come outside to enjoy a day of fresh scents and soft breezes. It can also get really exciting if your at the right spot at the right time you can catch the bees pollinating, in fact one of the holidays of this month Polbee is the celebration of pollination. The other two holidays are Leapfrog which is the celebration of all the animals uniting as one by playing one humongous game of leapfrog, although most of them seem to get stuck I just attribute this to them not being frogs, but that doesn’t stop them from trying. I mentioned this to Fritz, who just stared at me for a long time twitching his nose. The last holiday of this month is sprocket in which we celebrate all manner of mechanical inventions, Fritz applauded this idea and really seemed pleased with it.
5.Warmer – things are really starting to warm up now.
6.Growed-up – well this month is really about the end of spring and the bringing of summer in earnest, so we say that nature is all growed-up now, oh come now Fritz where is your sense of humor, I mean really if you don’t behave I’ll stuff cheese down your trousers…. what!!! Egad Fritz since when have you been running around with out anything on, simply distasteful?
7.Picnilswim – this is one of my favorite months!!! It is a time of picnicking and swimming, where every Ladysday is a holiday with my love, lady of the Winter Wood.
8.Stinkin Hot – this month is so unbearably hot and humid it deserves no holidays
9.Just Ridiculous – the humidity of this month is just ridiculous, it almost feels as if you’re wading through airy water. The last day of the month is a holiday called finally, in celebration of the coming of cooler temperatures.
10.Ach – I named this month so because it always seems to me that all of the teenage apprentices make this noise in preparation of returning to their respective towers to continue their magical studies at the end of their summer vacation. Two holidays this month the first is market day because the markets are always flooded with the teenage apprentices and their parents purchasing supplies for their impending return to their studies. And the second is Zephyl Madragonous Day, in honor of the greatest pioneer in wild magic history, of course we've only got bits of his journal, but it taught us much about what not to do.
11.Du – some strange inexplicable extra-planar force guided my hand into penning the name of this month, and in honor of that its one holiday is, strange inexplicable extra-planar force day. I celebrate this holiday by opening a special extra-planar gate; it is completely random and changes its destination at random as well. Then I sit and wait to see if anything makes it through, hoping one day to meet the force that guided my hand and ask it why? Fritz mentioned that he would like to celebrate that holiday by being away from Lupinite tower for a day trip.
12.Leiber – Fritz actually named this month for me and informed me that its only holiday was something called Lankhmar, I inquired as to what this was a celebration of and he said storytelling. So I guess it’s a sort of holiday for the Bards, I really didn’t know that Fritz was all that keen on bards.
13.Busy – is really what this month is, you have the harvest, and all sorts of babies being born left and right, people feasting and throwing balls and masquerades. The whole moth is so busy in fact that I just couldn’t put a holiday in because no one would have any time to celebrate it.
14.Holiday – everyday this month is a holiday to make up for the fact that we could not celebrate any last month.
15.Snooze – after Busy and Holiday we all need a rest right? So this month is for resting in preparation of the coming of the dreary Undays.
Well that about does it for my calendar year, but everybody else’s has 56 days left, so my year pauses, with the rest of nature as we all weather huge snows, and weather so bloody cold and bitter that they have no place on my calendar. The wizard’s carnival is in three of my weeks, I will present this to the high council.
