Thankfully we gamers have BIOware to keep RPG's alive on the PC.
Dragon Age Origins looks like it is gonna be a very cool game. But this comment made me think of Rincewind.
Experience the adrenaline rush of brutal combat, beheading your foes or casting spells that make enemies explode from within

Ya - that looks freaking amazing. I'm picking up the PC version, but they will have a console version, too. Also from Bioware, an Old Republic MMO that looks just stellar is coming eventually.
Good times, good times.

First Impressions, WOW. The graphics are awesome. With Dialog, you actually see the lips moving, in time with the words. Very CGIish. You can move with WASD, but not with the Arrows. ;( You can also still move by point and right click. Combat is almost Identical, with pause/Tactical or just click for attack and let them go at it.
I recommend going the long route and doing as much dialog as you can, as opposed to kids who will just want to run it as fast as they can. I have only gone past the the opening and getting ready to get really involved in it. Of course I'd like to go back and try some of the Dialog I didn't do, just to see the difference in how it goes with personality. You can be proper, nasty, humble etc. There are several ways you can do it .
For the record, remember to save often. I died, and have to repeat a line of a quest, so I can make sure I have enough healing for next quest. LOL And talk to everyone. Quests can be recieved from lots of people, without any marker saying they have it.
Whats really nice, is I made a City Elf Rogue after that death, and unlike NWN or NWN 2, the starting quest is completely different. So I can assume that the Dale Elf and Dwarf lines will also be different. That in itself is a nice change.
Negative, I don't like the way the did the blood. It's done for the Xbox and PS3 people, and it's a little overboard. However, when you end up cutting off a head, it is SOOOO COOL

Music is phenominal. I wish that I saw a copy of the Collectors Edition, because if the 2nd disc has the soundtrack, it would be worth it for me.
The battle scene, toward the start is also AWESOME.
It is like NWN series as you follow a path in the story, not much deviation for the quests maps. The story is I feel superior, but some may not like all the extra time spent "talking". However isn't that what RP is all about.

Interestingly, I didn't think that the graphics were that great for the gameplay. The cutscenes are outstanding, but the actual gameplay graphics are only so-so in my opinion.
Thank God that means little to me... heck, I still play Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, etc. Graphics be damned, a good story is primo to me.
And man, this game seems to have it. I am not very far in, but the story is well written, the voice acting is stellar, and the dialogue is deep, intense, and long. I personally like trying to roleplay in CRPGs, so I appreciate the extremely lengthy conversations. If you are just looking for a hack and slash game, this may not be it.
So far though, the hype seems justified.

Yeah, I was still early into it, when I did that. The cutscenes are what I was going at. When you get to party camp, I have spent plenty of time talking to the party. Depending where you are, I did the circle of Mages before Redcliff. You get Wynn there, who is a much better healer. However if you do Redcliff first, you will be sent to Mage Tower if you choose to save Connor. Spoiler, DON'T take Morigann into the Tower. I could add another one, but I won't. It was just too funny when I did it the first time. I died very fast but it was funny. There is a small patch for the game. I love the fact that they made Easy mode, Easier. LOL I myself am playing in normal, and take deaths as they come. I want a little challenge. Again I can not stress SAVE as often as possible, even if you hit F5 after every battle. Nothing is more frustrating than getting a random encounter, that wipes you out, and you have to go and do the last 1hrs worth of quests you just did.

OK, more first impressions. I like going 2hander as opposed to Shield and Sword. Even with Sten in party, S&S takes too long to drop, IMO. Therefore Sten likes to die, if you don't have enough healing.
If you didn't get Wardens Keep in the package, I do recommend spending the $7 for it. You will get a nice set of Plate armor to wear, until you can actually wear the Dragon Armor. I did it with most of party 6-7 in level, and did not have Wynn yet. Then pass the Armor down to Sten or Allister whoever you prefer in party.
Sorry Rince, I still haven't played the Magic User yet, from the start.

OK, I am moving right along with my Mage, yes the person, who doesn't play Mage classes in D&D, is going thru as a Mage right now. Impressions are still the same, I LOVE this game. The cut scenes are brilliant, even when just talking.
I may do things different, on another character, just too see how some things turn out. The Mage Tower and Redcliff Castle, when doing the Treaties, are so so for ending. However you have choices with the Elves/Werewolves, and have 2 different paths in the Dwarves section. Well you decide who will be King, both paths lead to that. I assume you can even change your mind at the last second. The scene for me on the Elves/Werewolf ending was So awesome. Overall I'm about 40-50% done right now. There are times I felt the Arcane Caster was, Overpowered, but other times I do take a beating. Well, it is Overpowered, since I can be the last person standing, in major fights.
