OK, I guess we've mentioned these in the TV category, but they are direct-to-DVD movies, so...
Anyway, right now there are 2 of the 4 Futurama movies out.... Bender's Big Score and The Beast with a Billion Backs- the latter of which may well achieve the distinction of becoming the first tentacle movie to be broadcast on prime-time American TV (on Comedy Central). Bender's Big Score is a great time-travel story with almost as much impact as their Roswell that Ends Well episode.
The Beast With a Billion Backs movie actually, despite what I'd initially thought, picks up IMMEDIATELY after the first movie ends. One quibble is that a major relationship is quickly abandoned/ignored early on in the second movie, but it's not like that doesn't happen in real life. Still... it feels a bit off. It's quite good and takes a rather unexpected turn- probably more than one, really.
Both DVD sets include commentary (which is generally pretty good and informative for Futurama TV series as well) which is very illuminating and fun to listen to. The first movie has a Futurama math/physics lecture as a standout bonus feature and a full-length episode of Everyone Love Hypnotoad. The second one has what they dub "The Lost Episode", which is put together from the Futurama videogame footage. It's actually hilarious and possibly better than the movie itself. Each set has a sneak preview of the next movie- and the 3rd one is called Bender's Game (yaay, Orson Scott Card reference) and seems to be heavily influenced by Dungeons and Dragons. Lancaster gamers movie night ahoy!
