Yes, about intolerance. It is also the thing that more often than not, ignorant or closed minded people are guilty of, not conservatives (as in all things, the 2 overlap, but are not inclusive by definition). My opinion on the matter is that good, available, affordable healthcare makes for a stronger union, populated by stronger people. In the end, it improves our standing in the world by helping to prolong our healthy existence. Healthier people are generally more capable and productive, producing a stronger economy, generating more wealth and well being, allowing for a more effective national defense, creating a safer place for us in this world. It represents the potential for systemic improvement, by providing greater support at the base of the system. It would be much like enriching the soil before attempting to grow. Yes, I'm saying it, people are the soil of any economy. We are dirt in the simile I used above.

I get a kick out of people complaining about the costs of action on the subject who don't appear to be considering the costs of INaction. As Obama has pointed out, keeping the status quo is worse than all possible plans out there for costs, coverage, etc. And yet still... *sigh* And you'll note that the "things are OK, why change?" people generally have decent insurance through their jobs- which is not the case for many or even most of us. I need to buy my and my family's insurance myself, which is not easy I can tell you.
I wish this wasn't coming at a time when the USA is strapped for cash thanks to... well, anyway. But it really needs to happen sometime.
