And so the story continues.....
Seamus and Ariel collect the items they had requisitioned and return to the small Bury Patch Ariel called home. There they crossed the shallow river to the cave on the opposite side and set up the "Markers" there. Once activated a temporary gate is activated and they step through, returning to the conclave. No sooner do they arrive when an intruder alarm is sounded and max heads off to investigate after a debriefing of their encounters and a briefing of Gizgards plans to start an expedition into the magic dead zone known as the Waste.
Max discovers a ragged, sleep deprived and malnourished Yak Folk collapsed near the Highmark Conclave. Seeming to have stumbled from the direction of the Waste. He orders the Dwarven Boar riders investigate and the general returns with the yak to the nursing hall.
Even as the newcomer is investigated max is alerted to the presence of a new recruit. A cleric of Pelor demands audience with the High Marshall whilst overhead a Zeppelin flys into view bearing Algorn and his laboratory.
Sol and Max, having known each other before settle their differences. At least for a time and Algorn sets up shop while Ariel, Seamus and Gizgard prepare for their trek into the hostile wilds to seek an ancient Orchish Artifact. A week passes and the Yak is well enough to travel. His memory is weak and hazy and he has identified himself as an outcast of his people. He agrees to lead them into the Waste and offer what bit of knowledge he can. Sol also decides to go, sensing that Pelor has a purpose for him. Ariel's creepy undead children, Tommy and Lisa, take cover in the conclave sewers in order to stay hidden from the Cleric of Pelor.
They begin their march into the waste the following day. In only a few hours Sol and the Yak fall to squabbling in an effort to establish dominance when the party is attacked by an Ethereal Defiler. The beast is fast and fierce but in the end is overcome. Shortly thereafter they fall into a sink hole and encounter a hive of Gemstone Scarab Beetles. Later they find small chasm containing a few Abyssal Basilisks. After this they make camp near a tree that turns out to be some sort of Plague bush. It is dealt with and they camp. Early the next morning they are set upon by a war party of Hobgoblins with about 30 troops. The party plays at diplomacy and soon are able to trade with them and gain some useful information about a ruined outpost. They set out after it the following day.
Two days later they enter a ravaged camp with a few mismatched body parts laying about and smoke from a recent fire. While investigating the party finds themselves in the midst of an ambush from 17 Trolls and three Bladerager Trolls and a fire giant. The battle is fierce and long fought but in the end a few remaining Trolls flee the battered, Bloodied and semi conscious party. They rest and heal and make the last few miles to the outpost. Passing through the first curtain of the Magic Dead Zone.
At the outpost they are set upon by Dust Weights but the Cleric of Pelor turns them with ease and the party finds refuge in a few reamining buildings. There they discover a key, a horn and a chest containing some Orcish items of magic. After some puzzle solving they find it is a map and compass but where does it lead? The party prepares to venture deeper into the Waste to find out and based on their adventure so far.....it can only get worse for them as they encounter enemies warped by the power of the Spell Battery and the ever constant struggle of the intelligent to find and control the ultimate prize. For it was told that those who find the "Eye of the Serpent", "Heart of Fire", "The Burning Shield", "Stone of Power", the Spell Battery, can become a god and ascend to the thrones of Olympus or Rule in the Abyss.

Another fun packed gaming session. I can't wait to see where this takes us and the future ramifications of certain actions (*cough* Burning Fist of Pelor *cough*). If I may add the creatures we defeated. Ethereal Defiler: 1 Gem Scarabs: A whole lot Basilisk: 1 Mandrake tree thingy: 1 Hobgoblins: A whole lot (won over through Diplomacy) Fire giant: 1 Trolls: 14 Psycho Trolls: 3 Dust Wights: 10 Magic Eight Ball says: There may be a new level in your future.

Yeah, wow I think we gamed the longest yet. Almost 2am. Thanx for posting the creature count. EXP awards to be posted soon.
It does bear mentioning, (Hah bear, hehheh) Grr' Rhnk, may be the only soon to be Hobgoblin Priest of Pelor. Granted his ideals are a little skewed (burn, Pelor says Burn! Fan the fires of belief and burn away the sins of the fallen. BURN!!) Especially given that shortly after making his first heartfelt prayer to Pelor, a sign was given and a great fire, brighter than any he had ever seen, burned on the horizon.....
"And the party did leave the ashes of the Trolls to be scattered by the winds. And they shielded their eyes from the intensity of light caused by Sol's holy aura as the last of the enemies were fed to the flames of the bon fire."

yes but never fear. The worst is yet to come. The party has just entered the first area of the magic dead zone. Within this area spells have a 50% chance of going awry. I'll have a chart made up that will determine if a spell is empowered or warped or negated. There will still be plenty of nasty creatures to deal with.
The second area of the magic dead zone will nullify spells and potions with a 30% chance of magic device failure when activated.
The third and final area is entierly magic dead. Here you must rely on your strength and wit. Here is also where you will find the majority of the struggle between factions. Many have developed skills, feats, traps and strange weapons to deal with the more powerful races and monsters that wander here. Don't be fooled. Just because its magic dead does not mean that monsters can't cope, quite the opposite. Here they have the advantage and survival is something you cannot take for granted.
Welcome to the Waste and abandoned all hope.

Oh great! Seamus is already paranoid of you Aramil and you go give him more fodder to believe that you are all out to get him.

I don't know why Seamus is paranoid. Just because Aramil shot Seamus in the back...a couple of times. I mean it happened so long ago, the wounds have healed already! Geez. You'd think he would get over it by now! ha! Anyway, so what if Aramil is a bit crazy. Aramil has to be crazy to hang out with this group. Honestly! He's in the company of an orc shaman who coughs up pebbles and travels with a ghostly boar, a magic user who wears a skirt (kilt), a young magic user who uses very poor disguises such as a beard which we can all see very clearly is not real, a self serving cleric who turns into a bear, and a yak. #Oogle# It looks to me that Aramil is the most sensible of the lot!!! ;D

Ok, you might be on to something when you mentioned the bear and yak in the same sentence.

What about the scary goth girl and her two "children" ? Sounds like a lot happened, I'll see you all in January. No worries on that. Let me know if a December game is thrown together, even though I HIGHLY doubt, due to my domestic situation, that I'd be able to make it, I'd at least have the option...and include directions to Farhan's if so.

Is that all you have to say about Seamus. That he wears a "kilt" (only if i'm wearing something under it would it be a skirt ... lol ). Plus who knows, since we're about to enter an area where Seamus strongest skills will not be useful, maybe he'll be able to return Aramil's "kind" jestor of shooting me in the back and stealing from me when we first met by putting a crossbow bolt in his back. OH yes we can't forget the pretty scary goth girl and the children. Which we'll have to try to get scary girl and the self centered holy warrior together without trying to kill each other. Since the yak and him all ready tried to do that between the two of them.
