Lostdog, great! I can work with you on the deity. My pantheon is not set in stone at the moment.
lordtacitglantri I love minotaurs. I treat them similar to barbarians. Usually coming from a small clan. They are few and often they are viewed with awe and fear. Mistrusted by many "civilized" places becuase of the myth that surounds their existance. In fact they have strong sentiments of honor, they are devote warriors and family/clan means much to them. Think Klingon. In magic they use runes and a type of tribal tattoo art. Talismans also hold great meaning for them. I'm still working on their deity. The deity is currently floating around the astral plane. He appears little more than a small floating island. His body decayed somewhat over the 300,000 years that he slept in a catatonic state due to a feirce battle with another god. his conciousness still remains though dimly, waiting to be rediscovered and reawakend.

What skills would my character need to create poisons? Antidotes? I couldn't really find anything in the guides, although I'd assume that Knowledge(Nature) would be something, possibly some Alchemy as well, don't know. Let me know then, please, I'd rather fancy some "special" arrows ;D

Hmm....something in herbalsim. Alchemy could be interesting. Both would be cross class skills but perhaps your study of mages has led you to at least a basic science of herbs, powders and their uses. You may choose either one.
Herbalism would allow you knowledge of plants, healing salvs, waterproofing, and natural toxins. You of course could only be familiar with local fauna.
Alchemy would allow you knowledge of Alchamists fire, creating smoke effects, some potions perhaps and yes poisons both natural and made.
(Note: if herbalisim is not in the list of skills we'll just add it. ) I'll do a little research.

1) What would be the case for antidotes? Because he'd figure that sooner or later he'll accidentally poison himself, or *cough* want to offer to trade the antidote for things *cough*
2) And off the topic, how do skill points work for multiclass characters? I know you buy the skills only as the class you most recently levelled in, but what are your maximum skill ranks? For example, with a lvl 2 rogue/ lvl 1 wizard, would it be max 4 for wizard skills or 6?
Thanks, sorry for all the questions, just trying to think ahead.

ohhohh a 3rd edition question
Craft (poison) is how they label it. a list of poison are in the dm guide page 297, and in arms and equipment guide page 37 (on page 36 they present the craft skill , we got that if ya want to take a look) but there is a problem with poisons. every time ya use poison with a weapon there is 5% chance that you poke yer self (reflex 15) but out side of that not much ("poison use" assassin)
Professions now a day really don't do too much. but having 5 ranks in Profession (herbalist) in theory give ya a +2 to Craft (poison)
antitoxin would be alchemical (full metal alchemist pop in head) to use alchemy ya got be able to cast spells.

I was looking into the maximum ranks in a skill question and the PHB seems to say that it doesn't really matter which class you levelled in last, as long as one class has it as a class skill, your maximum ranks in the skill are determined by your level, not your level/2. 3.0 makes a distinction between exclusive skills and non, but 3.5 did away with all exclusive skills, in which case it really doesn't matter. Much easier that way (3.5), methinks.
Edit: Scratch that, the damn thing's confusing. OK, apparently it DOES matter what the last one you levelled in, but the maximum rank is total level +3 for all skills as either class. It's just that for the one you just levelled in, one point buys one rank, for the other one one point buys 1/2 a rank.

skill rank the vain of dms
i think that kaber is playing with no crossclass way like i do , less math(much less) now to explain all of this it is easier with an example. (fade out to a dream sequence)
(insider info: max ranks = hd (hit die) + 3. (for all of us now its lvl + 3) for cross class max rank is hd +3 / 2
(realises it reallya nightmare and wakes up) ok if ay really want to get into cross class ask me when we next meet, there s!NO! way i'm going to try to explain it here. don't have that kind of patcience.

Actually, cross class skills are a pain. Lets just not deal with them. Simply put, unless you strive to learn a craft or specific trait in game, you cannot aquire it. Another words. You must tell me that your watching the wizard work alchemy to gain a rank in it. You must study the smith to learn how to craft armour, ect.
First you must study/observe. Second, you must make an attempt to craft(or what ever) without help. If you succeed then you may begin gaining ranks. Somethings you cannot learn unless you are a specific class. IE: Spell crafting is for wizards.
There may be gray areas which we can discuss at the table.
that's my take on it anyway.

I'm only worrying about them because I'm going to multi-class and will be advancing in different class skills in each, so was trying to find out what my max skill ranks would be. But I think I've got it figured out from the PHB. Again, 3.5 makes the calculations easier.

No prob. I don't know if or how multi classing effects cross class skills. I think cross class skills are something like 1 rank for every 2 points or something like that. Anyway we can clear that up at the table if we need to. Sounds like you know what your doing.
Hey I may have been a DM for most of my life but somethings can get in the way of good gaming. To much focus on game mechanics is one of those things. Sometimes its important. Mostly its about you guys having fun.
