Mara will search her memory for knowledge on Black Iron:
Knowledge (arcana): [dice=20] + 21 = 39
Craft (alchemy): [dice=20] + 19 = 34
She's trying to see if a sliver or so of this metal would be beneficial in spell casting or crafting (alchemy) any neat items/potions/oils.
If she remembers/learns anything, she will discretely pass along the info to Seamus[rand=875468160969810111065821028337858517699864633589318260712425541964]

"Solinar" Seamus keeps looking at the entrance "Or is it Tusk. I forget who has the raven. It doesn't matter, who ever has a connection the raven, would you mind asking your raven to fly up to that entrance to see if there is something to tie a rope to and to see if the area is secure."
Turning his attention from the entrance and to the 4 potions the two black Orcs hold. Looking over the party.
"Hmm ... I am going to suggest that we give the two largest and strongest a potion each and then a potion to Silverthron and Aramil. This way those four can carry those that can't fly up and secure the entrance. While those who have been left behind can climb up or wait for a ride. I am sure those who take the potions, can make several trips. What says the rest?"

That's fine with me, shrugs Mara. Still trying to draw upon memory for info on black iron.

Maria your knowledge of Black Iron reveals that the metal is highly dense making it extremely hard to break. Even with this cataclysmic impact the black sphere is unmarred.
If you do manage to find some pieces from it you think there is a great value to them. Your mind races as you think of tinctures and other applications of the material.
Tusk listens to Seamus's suggestions as to how to proceed. He gives a potion to Aramil and hands one to Solinar and he raises an eyebrow at it.
"Good sir, you offend me by presenting me with such a device to reach that entrance. I have Silverthorn to carry me up there." With that Solinar mounts Silverthorn and readies to fly up.
From his shoulder the black raven flies up to the opening and returns. Craww!
"Empty corridor. Craww! Empty corridor." The raven squawks to the group.
Tusk shrugs at Solinar and turns to the black orcs. "Ju stay here and wait fer us to return. Kill any dark skinned elfs ju see comin' here." The three orcs salute Tusk.
Solinar and Silverthorn fly up to the ledge, with Mistmour in tow.
Tusk drinks the potion, grabs Tobias, Mara and Seamus and flies to the entrance of the Fane.
Aramil looks at the potion and says to himself "I'll just save this for some other time." He then BAMPF...and he is in the corridor before everybody else gets there.

An iron lip extends 15 feet from the face of the huge sphere, leading into a 15-foot long corridor. The walls and ceilings are made of iron and they are very thick. At the end of the passageway stand a pair of tall, black iron doors, marred with large scratches and unidentified stains. The doors hang ajar, and a red glow flickers in the gloom beyond.
Solinar Vorlundir is glowing brightly with the presence of evil all around.
Standing at the doors is a massive creature with draconic and giantish features. It is armoured in full pate with ornately minted barbaric imagery. In its huge clawed hand it holds a gargantuan longsword that sparkles with electricity. As soon as you land it lowers its massive head and breaths a cone of cold on the party.

After Tusk's attack and hearing the creature's taunt in dragonic. Seamus replies in dragonic.
"Your breath is mighty cold, but I don't have time to waste entertaining you. For you stand in my way with destiny. Now feel the cold touch of death."
There is cold, dark aura that forms around Seamus. As almost as if Death it self has appeared.

Tusk shrugs off the cold from the creature's breath attack.

ADVENTURE SUMMARY
With the huge half-dragon/Cloud Giant guarding the entrance the party fights hard to defeat the evil creature. But it was not to be, the brutes of the party-- Tusk, Solinar, and Aramil-- were not able to strike down this beast. That is when Seamus points a finger at the creature and calls for its death. Without as much as a word the creature drops to the ground holding its chest.
The party decides to dump the body over the edge and Tobias lends a hand. He swiftly steals the soul of the creature before it falls over. Seamus and Mara once again see Tobias use the wand and are becoming suspicious of him.
It takes three of the larger party members to open the large doors. Aramil sneaks into the hallway beyond and discovers the bodies of two scaled black orcs and a eleven-headed Pyrohydra. Aramil notifies the party and shadow jumps onto the hydra hitting it hard. Tusk then clobbers the hydra slaying it. With the Pyrohydra dead, Tobias once again uses the rod on it (but ignores the already dead scaled black orcs). Aramil spots him using the rod this time and the party confronts Tobias. He tells them that the rod prevents the creature from ever being reanimated.
Seamus suddenly feels an overwhelming feeling of confinement and dread. His vision blurs and for an instant everything he sees is distorted and has a green hue to it.
The party enters a room where they find a green crystal that is 15 feet in diameter sitting on a silver stand. Next to the crystal are two scaled black orcs and a half-dragon Gnoll.
Aramil and Solinar attack the Gnoll while Tusk tries to befriend the orcs. He is able to make them neutral but they are still apprehensive. Seamus stands back to study the crystal. While the party defeats the Gnoll the two orcs attack the party. After a bit of fighting the two orcs are slain and this time Tobias uses the rod on all three creatures.
Inside the crystal Seamus sees an insect like creature trapped in a sap like material, three husks of some humanoid creatures, and some internal organs. Seamus breaks the crystal releasing the insect creature which turns out to be a juvenile brass dragon in extremely poor condition. Seamus puts the ring of sustenance on the dragon to help restore some of its health. The dragon in still very weak and asks for Seamus to share his strength with him. Seamus freely agrees and dragon and human are joined via a lifeforce link.
While linked Seamus experiences a blinding flash of images from the past until he cannot process the information and goes unconscious. After some time Seamus (looking very tired and weakened by the experience) and the dragon continue to explore the Fane of Scales.
The party discovers a room with a crudely carved mural about a red dragon. They find a bedchamber and Aramil discovers a secret compartment. There is a magical trap but Aramil fails to disable it and almost dies. His only saving grace was Solinar. In the compartment they find a spellbook and scrolls.
The party travels on and finds a room with two dead scaled black orcs and a four armed stone golem. The golem breaths a poisonous gas which hurts Aramil's really bad. The party soon defeats the golem and the forge in the corner lights up. After a few rounds another four armed stone golem walks out of the fire. The party decided that they must destroy the forge to stop the golems from being made. It takes quite a bit of time to destroy the forge while defeating the golems.
The party then finds a room with a locked and trapped door. Aramil fails to disable the trap and is damaged by the poisonous gas. Inside the room they find that the floor is covered in black soil. On the other side of the room is a freakish tree and a half-dragon drow fighting it. Seamus sets off two delayed blast fireballs in there killing the tree and drow. They learn that the drow is a high ranking member of the Black Covenant from the golden torque she is wearing, which bears the symbol of Tiamat.
The party heals up and heads to the back section of the Fane. This room is massive. The ceiling is approximately 500 feet high and the room is 120 feet by 400 feet. At the center is a large pool of black sludge and floating above it is an object shaped like an egg that is 6 feet in height and 3 feet wide. There are four iron planks placed at each of the cardinal points.
The party spots two half-dragon creatures which also spot them. The two creatures take flight and from air they breath down on the party. One shoots electricity while the other breaths fire.
Aramil shadow jumps onto the half-red dragon troll and fights him which Tusk jumps up and attacks the half-blue dragon elf. After a few hits from Seamus' Orbs of Force on the half-red dragon the creature decided to crash into the liquid. Aramil grappled by the creature can't break free and takes damage from the fall and the poisonous black sludge. Aramil feels his strength drain out of him as does the half-dragon troll. Aramil struggles to break free of the troll keeping his head underwater and soon succumbs to the toxic black sludge. The half-dragon troll also falls dead on top of Aramil. The party dispatches the other half-dragon.
Meanwhile Tobias sneaks past the party heading for the black egg when Silverthorn spots him and alerts the party. Seamus quickly wraps the black egg in a wall of force. Angered that he was denied his purpose Tobias appears behind Seamus and hits him hard with his weapons. Seamus is reduced to 1 point of consititution. The brass dragon instinctively attacks Tobias but misses. Tobias returns to the black egg thinking that he had killed Seamus but finds that Seamus is still alive and the wall of force is still active. The brass dragon uses its own life force to heal Seamus of some of the damage. Tusk leaps onto Tobias striking him hard but is unable to kill him. Tobias curses the adventurers that he will have his revenge and escapes by teleporting out.
Soon the party debates on how to get Aramil out of the sludge and mourn the loss. Tusk then tries to cast reincarnate and Aramil returns as the half-dragon elf. Aramil is very happy with his new body and begins to figure out its potential.
The party places protective spells against evil, outsiders, undead on the black egg and Solinar calls some hound Archons to guard the evil object.
Outside they place more wards against the same and notice that the Fane of Scales is floating a bit higher now than when they entered it.
The party reunites with the two scaled black orcs and the other orc. They bow and salute Tusk standing around him in protection. Seamus every so often lays a hand on the dragon and unknown to the party is learning to communicate with it. Aramil spreads his leathery wings and attempts to fly and after a few failed attempts begins to get the hang of it. [Picture him flying like the Greatest American Hero]
Seamus reports to Max their findings and soon the party is off on the ir way to the black obelisk. Solinar mounts Silverthorn, Aramil decides to follow practicing flying and learning the potential of his new body. The strange orc turns to Tusk and says, "Warchief ride." He stands away and painfully transforms into a fightful looking Mastodon. Tusk leaps on the large back and offer a hand to Seamus but he respectfully declines. He says he needs to spend time with the dragon to bond and restore it to its potential.
A few hours later the party stands at the lip of the crater at the center of which stands the black obelisk. Tusk grins a vicious grin at the prospect of taking the first steps to fulfill his destiny.

Off in the distance Tobias watches the adventurers depart the Fane of Scales.
I will have what is rightfully mine and then all of you shall pay for standing in my way. He turns, his cloak catching the wind, intent on gathering a new crew.
In Brightstone Keep the Illithid in service to Kurjan the Black speaks telepathically with his brothers.
Gallara and the others have failed in securing the Black Egg. The human also continues to elude us. We must have the item returned to us. My work here goes as planned. Kurjan is proving to be a valuable investment.
Do not falter my brothers. The penalty for failure will be most severe for all of us. For Death and Darkness we strive. The last was the creed of the Black Covenant.
The link was broken and the dark ones proceeded with their nefarious plan.
